Evaporator Maintenance and Repair
Evaporators used in cooling systems are called evaporators. Likewise, they can also be called cooling coils. Evaporator is the place where the refrigerant enters as liquid and exits as gas in cooling systems. When the refrigerant enters the evaporator channels, it absorbs the heat from the cooled substance, thus turning into a gas while absorbing from that area. At the end of all these events, cooling occurs in the evaporator. For example, as the gas passes through those channels, it cools the water. Evaporator types vary depending on their usage areas and purposes. But the goal is always to cool. If we need to explain these; *Evaporators used for cooling liquid substances (glycol, water, chemicals, etc.) *Evaporators used for cooling solid substances (ice, ice rinks, metals, etc.) The cooling power of the evaporator is used in many sectors. For example, it is used in the cosmetics industry, pharmaceutical industry, food fields, plastic injection factories, alcohol coolers and ships. In our daily lives, it is used in air conditioners, refrigerators, in short, everywhere we encounter it in our daily lives.
Evaporator Types
– Bare Tube Evaporator – Finned Tube Evaporator – Plate Evaporator If we were to explain these; 1- Bare Tube Evaporator These are small evaporators using copper pipes. It can be used for cooling air or liquid material. Steel pipes are preferred in systems where ammonia is used as a refrigerant. It can be used in large evaporators containing different types of refrigerants. 2- Finned Tube Evaporator This type is generally used for air cooling. It adheres to the evaporator surface, slowing down the heat transfer process. It is used to prevent transmission loss caused by this thin layer. Another way to achieve this is to increase the surface area. For this purpose, fins are added to the evaporator pipes. 3- Plate Evaporator The working principle of the plate evaporator is to transfer heat between two fluids with a temperature difference between them. The material to be cooled and the refrigerant fluid are separated from each other with the help of plates. Standard plates have 4 pipes, 2 inlets and 2 outlets. Two of them are the inlet and outlet pipes of the fluid to be cooled, and two are the inlet and outlet pipes of the substance to be cooled.
